Barrett Distribution Centers
(May 2014 - Present)
Overview
My work at Barrett Distribution Centers spans more than a decade and reflects a steady expansion of responsibility across systems integration, infrastructure, architecture, and cybersecurity. Over that time, my role evolved from hands-on data integration and operational tooling into broader responsibility for supporting systems, and ultimately into a senior technical role focused on day-to-day cybersecurity operations and execution.
Throughout that progression, the underlying focus remained consistent: keeping business-critical systems reliable, observable, and aligned with real operational needs.
Progression and scope
I joined Barrett working primarily in data integration and B2B communications, designing and supporting systems responsible for moving structured data between customers, vendors, and internal platforms. This work required close coordination with both external partners and internal teams, as well as a strong emphasis on correctness, monitoring, and recoverability.
As Barrett’s systems and operational complexity grew, my responsibilities expanded into administration and architecture of supporting systems. This included identity and access management, databases, cloud and SaaS platforms, internal tooling, and the design of monitoring and validation mechanisms to ensure core systems behaved as expected. Alongside this work, I produced documentation and provided peer training to support continuity and knowledge transfer within the team.
In recent years, my work has increasingly focused on cybersecurity operations, supporting the organization’s broader security leadership through hands-on implementation, monitoring, response, and technical coordination across systems and teams.
Areas of responsibility
Across roles, my work at Barrett has consistently included:
- Systems integration and data exchange supporting logistics operations
- Architecture and administration of supporting infrastructure and platforms
- Design of monitoring, alerting, and validation to surface failure early
- Development of internal tooling to close gaps between commercial systems
- Documentation and training to support operational continuity
- Hands-on cybersecurity operations, including detection, response, and technical remediation
While titles and emphasis shifted over time, these concerns remained central.
Current focus
Today, my primary focus is day-to-day cybersecurity operations. I work closely with Barrett’s security leadership to implement controls, monitor systems, investigate and respond to incidents, and support audits and reviews from a technical execution standpoint.
My role is intentionally operational rather than strategic: translating security policy and program direction into functioning controls, processes, and tooling that integrate cleanly with existing infrastructure and business operations.
The emphasis is on practical security that works in real environments, not abstract governance.
This page provides context for my work at Barrett Distribution Centers. Broader discussion of domain focus and approach is covered in the Warehousing and Logistics Systems section.
